Èze exists in two distinct places, and confusing them makes you miss a flight. Èze-Village is perched four hundred metres up on the Moyenne Corniche; Èze-Bord-de-Mer sits at sea level on the Basse Corniche, and a quarter of an hour of hairpins separates the two. The village is entirely pedestrian: the drop-off is at the entrance car park, and a walk uphill remains to the hotels and the Exotic Garden. The establishments on the Moyenne Corniche have their own access. The Grande Corniche, higher still, offers the views but adds appreciably to the journey. This three-storey geography is why twenty-one kilometres to Nice Airport take thirty minutes. Monaco is a quarter of an hour away on the Moyenne Corniche.

What is the difference between Èze-Village and Èze-Bord-de-Mer?
They are two places separated by four hundred metres of altitude and a quarter of an hour of hairpins. Specify which when you book, along with your hotel's name: it is the commonest confusion here, and a costly one on a departure day.
Can you drive into the village of Èze?
No, the village is pedestrian. The drop-off is at the entrance car park, from which a steep cobbled walk of a few minutes remains. If you have heavy luggage, say so: some hotels arrange their own portering from that point.
Is the Grande Corniche worth the detour?
For the view, yes, and we take it gladly on hourly hire or an excursion. For an airport transfer with a time to keep, we prefer the Moyenne Corniche or the motorway, which are more reliable.
